As the outer protective structural parts of the shield machine, it not only bears the stratum pressure, provides safety protection for internal equipment and operators, but also bears the horizontal thrust of the jack, helping the shield machine to move forward steadily in the soil layer. At the same time, the shield shell is also the installation foundation and support skeleton of various mechanisms. ​

As the core component of the shield machine, the cutterhead is located at the front end of the shield machine. It is a steel structural parts welded part, which is welded by a cutter seat, a wear-resistant plate, a front panel, a rear panel, etc. Its main functions are to excavate the soil, stabilize the face and mix the slag. During the shield excavation process, the cutters, leading cutters, rollers and other tools arranged on the cutterhead penetrate into the stratum with the help of the rotation of the cutterhead and the propulsion force of the jack, excavate the soil layer of the excavation face, and the slag enters the soil bin through the opening of the cutterhead. When excavating in unstable strata, the cutterhead panel can also stabilize the tunnel face and prevent excessive collapse. The mixing device installed behind the cutterhead mixes the slag in the soil bin or with additives to make the slag have a certain plasticity, which is convenient for adjusting and controlling the pressure in the soil bin through the screw conveyor. ​

The carbon steel structural parts of the frame and walking mechanism provide stable support and mobility for the shield machine. The frame is used to install various equipment of the shield machine, such as the main transformer, hydraulic system, electrical control system, etc., to ensure the stability of the equipment during operation. The walking mechanism enables the shield machine to move forward in the tunnel in a predetermined direction and speed. It plays an indispensable role in various construction stages such as the start, advancement and reception of the shield machine, ensuring that the shield machine can complete the tunnel excavation task efficiently and stably.
